Norway: Authorities issue avalanche warnings across multiple regions May 6-7
Authorities issue warnings for high risk of avalanches across parts of Norway May 6-7; disruptions to overland transport possible.

The Norwegian avalanche warning service Varsom has issued red-level avalanche warnings (the second-highest level on a five-tier scale) across much of central Norway effective May 6. Orange and yellow warnings are in place across parts of southern and northern Norway. Orange warnings continue across much of northern and central Norway May 7, with yellow and green warnings in place across parts of southern Norway. Authorities will likely issue new alerts or update/rescind existing advisories as weather conditions change over the coming days. The heightened avalanche threat is due to wet snow and loose snowpack.
As of May 6, Varsom has issued the following avalanche warnings across mainland Norway:
Red warnings: Sor-Toms, Lofoten og Vesteralen, Ofoten, Salten, Svartisen, and Helgeland avalanche forecast districts.
Orange warnings: Finnmarkskysten, Vest-Finnmark, Nord-Troms, Lyngen, Tromso, Indre Troms, Trollheimen, Romsdal, Sunnmore, Indre Fjordane, Jotunheimen, Indre Sogn, Voss, and Hardanger avalanche forecast regions.
Yellow warnings: Hallingdal, Vest-Telemark, and Heinae avalanche forecast regions.
Avalanches could block roads and railway tracks and cause damage to nearby infrastructure with little warning. Power outages could occur in affected areas due to damage to power lines or other electricity supply infrastructure. Due to the heightened avalanche risk, authorities may close some mountain passes and other routes near unstable slopes as a precaution.

Monitor local media for updated emergency and weather information. Seek updated information on weather and road conditions before driving or routing shipments through areas where severe weather is forecast. Charge battery-powered devices in the case of prolonged electricity outages.
