Informational

Event

Activists affiliated with the opposition #FixTheCountry movement plan to embark on a three-day protest June 4-6. Participants are expected to gather at Kwame Nkrumah Circle and march toward the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation to demand authorities allow them to publicly address their grievances. Activists will also picket at the Ghana Police Headquarters. Organizers did not provide further details. It remains unclear whether authorization has been granted for the event; authorities did not formally forbid the action but said that they would not be able to provide security due to the "nature and character" of the demonstration, citing a potential threat to public order. Organizers stated they intend to contract private security personnel with weapons to secure the protest.

Heightened security and localized traffic disruptions are likely around the protest sites. Given the anti-government nature of the protest and the potential threat to public order invoked by authorities, clashes between demonstrators and security forces are possible.

Advice

Avoid all protests to mitigate related disruptions. Heed the advice of security personnel and leave the area immediately at the first sign of any confrontation.
