Norway: Rail employees to strike nationwide and protest in Oslo June 14
Rail employees plan nationwide strike and protest in Oslo, Norway, June 14; significant rail disruptions likely.
Event
The Norwegian Railway Association and the Norwegian Locomotive Manufacturers' Association will strike from 11:00-13:00 June 14. The work stoppage is to protest proposed railway reform. Train drivers and conductors will participate in the strike. Affected lines include all Vy ost, Flytoget and Vy Gjovikbanen trains, and Go-Ahead Norway, Vy Tog AS, and SJ Norway trains running along the Oslo-Kongsberg, Honefoss, and Lillehammer routes. An associated demonstration will take place at Oslo Central Station in Oslo from 11:30-12:30. It is unclear how many people will attend the protest.
The elevated use of alternative means of transport, such as regional buses, taxis, or private vehicles, could prompt increased road traffic congestion. Residual disruptions are possible after the strike ends as rail operators reposition rolling stock.
Advice
Confirm all train reservations and allow additional time for travel during the announced strike period. Arrange alternative transport options if necessary.
