Heightened security measures, including road closures and personnel and vehicle checks, are likely in Ataq city in Shabwah Governorate over the coming hours following clashes between Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and Yemeni forces, June 22. Reports indicate that AQAP fighters attacked a security checkpoint near the entrance to the city of Ataq, which belonged to the Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces. The clashes resulted in the deaths of five STC fighters and three AQAP militants.

Localized transport and business disruptions will probably also affect the area over the coming hours. Additional clashes are likely in Ataq and surrounding areas over the coming days and weeks.
