Armenia: Authorities evacuate and close all Yerevan Metro stations due to bomb threats Aug. 2

Metro stations evacuated in Yerevan, Armenia, following bomb threats Aug. 2; increased demand for alternative modes of transport likely.

Warning

Event

Authorities have evacuated and closed all Yerevan Metro stations Aug. 2 in response to anonymous bomb threats made against metro facilities. All metro services have been suspended. Reports indicate that bomb threats were also made against several military and government facilities as well as Zvartnots International Airport (EVN); no significant disruptions were immediately reported at the airport. Authorities previously evacuated all metro stations July 20 in response to similar bomb threats.

Heightened security measures and metro disruptions will almost certainly persist as police conduct their investigations. Elevated demand for alternative modes of transport is likely over the coming hours; increased traffic congestion is possible. Residual metro disruptions are likely once services resume as authorities work to normalize transport schedules and passenger flows.

Advice

Heed all instructions from security services. Reconfirm public transport schedules before beginning journeys and allow extra time for travel. Make alternative transport arrangements if necessary.
