Authorities are responding to the discovery of a WWII-era bomb in Brunswick Aug. 14. The device was discovered during exploratory work in the Leiferde area. Officials have imposed an approximately 1,000 meter (3,280 foot) security cordon around the device to facilitate the disposal operation.

All individuals inside the security cordon must evacuate and no traffic is permitted. A section of the B248 Highway is closed, as are nearby sections of the rail lines linking Salzgitter and Seesen and Wolfenbuttel and Goslar. Road public transport in the area is also likely to be canceled or diverted. Increased congestion is likely on alternative routes. The disposal operation and related disruptions are expected to continue through at least the afternoon of Aug. 14.
