Yemeni authorities have deployed security forces ahead of a protest in Radfan, Lahij Governorate, Jan. 12. Protesters marching from Radfan towards the larger city of Al Habilayn, located less than 2 km (1.2 miles) west of Radfan, were stopped by security forces. The action was called to denounce the death of an activist.

Security forces will likely maintain a heightened security posture in Radfan until the situation stabilizes. Localized transport disruptions are likely in the area through late Jan. 12. Clashes between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or if they ignore police orders to disperse.
