As of early March 1, an emergency response is ongoing near Evangelismos after trains collided late Feb. 28. Reports indicate that the collision occurred around 23:00 and involved an intercity train traveling on the Larissa-Thessaloniki route. The incident has reportedly killed at least 8 people and injured several others. The cause of the collision is not yet known. However, the incident alleges comes after complaints regarding the malfunction of the rails remote control and signaling system.

The railway line will remain closed while response teams secure the area. Train services operating on the impacted route will be disrupted and delayed.
