Event

Police are working to disperse protesters burning tires on and blocking Autopista Mexico-Toluca (Mexican Federal Highway 15) in the vicinity of La Marquesa, Mexico State, April 20. The demonstrators, composed of residents of nearby San Jeronimo Acazulco, are staging the protest to demand compensation for the use of their lands in connection with an interurban train development project. The protest has reportedly caused traffic disruptions in both directions between Mexico City and Toluca.

Transport disruptions are likely to continue to impact Autopista Mexico-Toluca over the coming hours. Increased traffic congestion is possible on alternative routes. A heightened security presence will almost certainly remain in place in the area until the protest concludes. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid the demonstration as a standard precaution. Do not attempt to pass through any roadblocks set up by protesters; seek alternative routes or wait for the police to dismantle them. Allow for additional transport time along Autopista Mexico-Toluca. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
