Bolivia: Wildfire closes Viru Viru airport August 1

Authorities suspend all traffic from Viru Viru airport in Santa Cruz until further notice after wildfire breaks out in nearby forest August 1

Warning

Event

Santa Cruz's Viru Viru airport (VVI) has suspended all flights until further notice as of Tuesday, August 1, as a precautionary measure due to a wildfire in a nearby forest. Reports say sustained high winds may threaten the airport if the fire is not put under control. Authorities noted that the country's firefighting resources have been spread thin after 5400 fires of varying sizes have been reported in Santa Cruz department this year.

Advice

Travelers flying to, from, or through VVI are advised to confirm the status of their flights and to contact their airline for additional information.
