Belize: Police to increase patrols in Belize City
Police to increase patrols in central Belize City following recent armed robberies
Event
Authorities in Belize City are increasing police patrols following a series of armed robbery attempts in the center of the city. On Wednesday, December 27, Assistant Superintendent Alejandro Cowo told reporters that two armed robberies occurred in the Belize City in recent days. Armed men robbed a store on Oleander Street and two gunmen attempted to hold up another store on 16th Street. However, the business owner opened fire on the robbers, causing them to flee the area. Expect an increased police presence throughout the city in the coming weeks.
Advice
Individuals in Belize City are advised to exercise an increased level of vigilance regarding crime (carry only small amounts of cash, leave copies of passports/credit cards in a safe location, etc.). Keep in mind that criminals are often armed; if confronted, never offer resistance.
