Bolivia: Deadly flooding in Santa Cruz Jan. 2

At least one person drowned on Tuesday, January 2, due to flooding in the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Santa Cruz department). According to the national weather service Senamhi, some 184 liters per square meter of rain fell on the city during the day. Senamhi is forecasting further rain for the area through January 5, which could result in further flooding.

Context

Flooding is common in Bolivia, particularly during the rainy season (October to April), and can result in significant transportation disruptions, structural damage, and loss of life.
