Various unions to hold strikes and protests January 10-12 in Bolivia; major disruptions due to roadblocks expected

Various unions will carry out strikes and protests between Wednesday, January 10, and Friday, January 12, to protest recent changes to the penal code, notably measures that allow current President Evo Morales to run for reelection indefinitely. Demonstrations and roadblocks by striking working are possible on highways and at major city intersections throughout affected areas, including at international border crossings. Major transportation disruptions are thus to be anticipated throughout the duration of the strikes. Associated violence is possible.
Context
Bolivian civic groups and unions frequently erect roadblocks as a form of protest. The country's mountainous terrain means that few roads exist to connect major cities and therefore roadblocks serve as especially effective bargaining tools in negotiations. Violence at roadblocks is not rare.
