Unidentified gunmen ambush civilian vehicle, killing at least eight people, in Ménaka region May 10

On Thursday, May 10, unidentified gunmen ambushed a civilian vehicle in Ménaka region, killing at least six people. According to local sources, the attack occurred between the towns of Indelimane and Ménaka. Following the ambush, the assailants reportedly attacked a nearby settlement, killing another two civilians.
Context
Due to the presence of these and various other armed groups, Mali's northern and central regions remain unstable despite a French-led intervention launched in 2013 that drove many extremists from their strongholds. France maintains approximately 4000 troops stationed throughout the Sahel, in addition to the presence of local military troops.
