Government strengthens military presence along Brazilian border after cartel captures weapons, ammunition; remain vigilant in border areas

Informational

Event

The Bolivian Ministry of Defense has announced it will strengthen its military presence along the Brazilian border in Pando and Beni states (north). The move is in response to a June 23 attack by members of the Brazilian cartel Comando Vermelho, in which seven cartel members injured a Bolivian soldier and captured weapons and ammunition. The government has instructed border posts to respond with live fire to any future attacks.

Advice

Individuals in Bolivia are advised to remain vigilant when traveling along the border, obey all instructions issued by the local authorities, and report any suspicious activity or behavior.
