Mali: Energy workers plan 48-hour strike November 7-8

The Free Trade Union Energy Sector is planning to launch a 48-hour strike beginning on Wednesday, November 7. According to union officials, the strike will cause power outages to 60 percent of the Énergie du Mali network. The union claims that the government has only implemented two out of 26 points of a previously agreed upon plan. Better working conditions, salary increases, and bonuses for working in high risk areas are among the top demands from the union. Significant commercial disruptions and widespread electricity outages are expected across the country during the strike.
