Mali: IED blast kills two in Mopti region November 20

Event

A military vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) in Mopti region early (local time) on Tuesday, November 20, leaving at least two people dead and six others wounded. The IED detonation was reportedly followed by gunfire; the incident took place some 4 km (2.5 mi) east of the Boni intersection. Similar attacks are possible in Mopti region over the near term.

Context

Additionally, another IED blast struck a military vehicle near Sokolo (Ségou region) on November 20, wounding at least two people.

Due to the presence of various armed groups, Mali's northern and central regions remain unstable despite the presence of the MINUSMA, one of the largest UN peacekeeping missions in the world.
