Mali: Further protest in Bamako December 11

Human rights associations call for protests on December 11 in Bamako to denounce perceived human rights violations; avoid all protests

Warning

Event

Human Rights associations called for protests to take place on Tuesday, December 11, in the capital Bamako, to denounce a draft law they claim will allow perpetrators of human rights abuses of the 2012 crisis to be absolved. Protesters are planning to gather at the Monument Cabral at 08:30 (local time). A heightened security presence is likely in the vicinity of the protest. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Advice Travelers in Mali and specifically in Bamako are advised to closely monitor the situation and avoid all gatherings due to the risk of clashes between protesters and the security forces.

As a side note, the security environment in Mali remains complex, particularly in the north and central regions. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
