Bolivia: Demonstration expected in La Paz June 10

Demonstration expected in La Paz June 10 to denounce President Morales' bid for reelection; significant transportation disruptions to be expected in affected areas

Warning

Event

A demonstration is expected in La Paz on Monday morning (local time), June 10, to denounce the candidacy of incumbent President Evo Morales for the October 2019 presidential elections. Organizers called on participants to rally from 09:00 at the Ceja del Alto intersection before marching to the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) building.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to be expected in La Paz over the coming hours.

Context

Opposition groups argue Morales is constitutionally barred from seeking re-election following a 2016 referendum which upheld term limits. The high court has since ruled in favor of Morales paving the way for his candidacy in 2019.

Advice

Individuals in Bolivia are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid public demonstrations as a precaution, and anticipate transportation disruptions in affected areas.
