Bolivia: Road blockages in El Alto (La Paz department) June 18-21

Farmers have blocked roads in El Alto (La Paz Department) in protests since Tuesday, June 18, demanding that the government invest more money in projects for the area and for it to restore the Deputy Mayor's functions. People are blocking Highway 2, a main road that leads from El Alto to Copacabana. The blockade is expected to last at least until Friday, June 21, though may last longer or be repeated in the coming weeks if there is no government response.

Further related protests are expected in the coming days. Associated transportation disruptions and a heightened security presence are expected in the vicinity of the protests.
