Sit-in protest planned in Bamako on June 29 to denounce intercommunal violence in central Mali; avoid all gatherings

The BI-TON movement is calling for a silent sit-in protest to take place in the Hamdallaye area in Bamako on Saturday, June 29, in commemoration of the recent intercommunal violence in central Mali. Protesters are expected to gather near the Monument de l'Obelisque, starting from 08:00 (local time).

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected near the protest site. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Context

41 members of the Dogon ethnic community were killed in Yoro and Gangafani (Mopti region; centre) on June 17-18.
