Mali: Attack leaves two people dead in Mopti region August 22

Event

An attack by unidentified assailants left at least two people dead and two others wounded in the village of Tagari Dogon (Koro Cercle, Mopti region) on Thursday, August 22. The attackers reportedly looted and destroyed several buildings, and stole livestock during the raid.

Similar attacks are possible in the area over the near term. 

Context

Due to the presence of various armed groups, Mali's northern and central regions remain unstable despite the presence of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), one of the largest UN peacekeeping missions in the world. Since 2013, some 170 peacekeepers have been killed in Mali.
