Civil society group plans anti-corruption protests across the country August 24; heightened security and localized traffic disruptions expected

The Platform Against Corruption and Unemployment in Mali (CCP) and other associations have called for nationwide protests on Saturday, August 24, in support of the Malian armed forces and to demand better equipment for the national military.
In Bamako, protesters are expected to gather at Boulevard de l'Indépendance. In other urban centers the CCP called for demonstrations outside the municipalities. The exact times of the protests were not immediately available.
A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected near all protest sites.
