Tensions remain high in Bandiagara Cercle (Mopti region), where attacks such as abductions, public killings, and muggings occur on an almost daily basis. Between Saturday, September 21, and Tuesday, September 24, at least three attacks were reported in the area; on Saturday, clashes erupted between two armed groups in Toumpou, on Monday, armed men attacked the village of Sinikanda, and on Tuesday, a fire broke out in the village of Baladjina.

Further attacks targeting villages across Bandiagara Cercle are likely.

Context

Due to the presence of various armed groups, Mali's northern and central regions remain unstable despite the presence of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), one of the largest UN peacekeeping missions in the world.
