Bolivia: Roadblocks reported in ongoing protest near Ascension de Guarayos October 1

Event

Members of the Single Federation of Rural Workers of Ascension of Guarayos are blocking highway 9, the main road that connects Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz department) and Trinidad (Beni department) in protest as of Tuesday, October 1. The blockade is to protest the murder of a community leader and to call upon the government for justice.

Significant transportation disruptions are to be expected for a large part of the day along the main road. Associated protests and a heightened security presence are also possible. The blockade may continue over the next several days or until a government response is issued.

Individuals in the Beni and Santa Cruz departments are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests and public gatherings, anticipate transportation disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
