Militants ambush military patrol in Mopti on August 27; further clashes likely
Event
Militants in Mali ambushed a military anti-poaching patrol 25 km (16 miles) away from the town of Konna, in the central Mopti region, on Thursday, August 27. At least four soldiers were killed in the attack, with a further 12 injured. The army has announced that additional soldiers were to be deployed in the area in reinforcement.
Further clashes between militants and security forces are to be expected in Mopti in the near to medium term.
