Argentina: Health workers to strike and protest in Buenos Aires and Cordoba Dec. 3

Health workers plan to hold strikes and protests in Buenos Aires and Cordoba Dec. 3, over separate salary-related grievances. In Buenos Aires, health workers affiliated with the Association of Municipal Doctors (Asociacion Medicos Municipales, AMM) and the Federation of Professionals (Federacion de Profesionales) will stage a partial work stoppage 0930-1400; related protests will also take place outside the Government of the City of Buenos Aires headquarters in the Parque Patricios area during the strike.

In Cordoba, health workers affiliated with the Multisectoral Health union (Multisectorial de la Salud) will stage a 24-hour strike the same day. The workers will also march from the intersection of Avenidas Colon and General Paz to Patio Olmos, starting at 1800.

Disruptions to routine health services at government hospitals and health facilities are likely due to understaffing at affected facilities in both cities. The work stoppages will probably not impact emergency treatment. Increased demand for care could also disrupt services at private facilities. The demonstrations are likely to conclude mostly peacefully; however, low-level confrontations have occurred at previous health-related protests in the capital, and cannot be ruled out. Localized traffic disruptions are likely near the protests.
