Suspected militants attacked peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), injuring at least 20 in Kerena, Mali, Feb. 10. An unspecified number of assailants reportedly drove an explosives-laden vehicle into the UN force's temporary base at the village before opening fire with mortars and automatic weapons. Peacekeeping troops ultimately repelled the attack; there have been no reports concerning the number of casualties suffered by the militants.

The assault underscores the pervasive insecurity and risk of militant attacks across much of Mali.
