Argentina: Unionized port workers' strike ongoing nationwide through at least May 21

Port and grain export workers, associated with several unions including the Maritime, Port and Naval Industry Federation (Federacion Maritima, Portuaria y de la Industria Naval, Fempinra) and the Argentine Association of Fishing Captains, Pilots and Patrons (Asociacion Argentina de Capitanes, Pilotos y Patrones de Pesca), have launched nationwide strikes through at least May 21. The action is to demand the national government to provide port workers with COVID-19 vaccines. Activists allege they are essential workers and have suffered with numerous infections and deaths since the pandemic started.

The strike is mainly affecting the exports of grain and other maritime commercial services, as well as commercial fishing activities.

Protests near main ports are possible, especially in the city of Rosario. Heightened security near ports is possible due to the possibility of demonstrations.
