Bolivia: Health workers to strike nationwide May 7
Healthcare workers to strike nationwide in Bolivia May 7. Health service disruptions and protests possible.
Event
Healthcare workers affiliated with the National Health Council (Consejo Nacional de Salud, CONASA) announced they will strike May 7 to denounce the government's COVID-19 response and policy. There have been no reported associated protests; however, some gatherings near hospitals and government facilities in major cities remain possible.
The work stoppage is unlikely to affect emergency services and COVID-19 care. However, disruptions to routine health services at government hospitals and health facilities may occur due to understaffing. Increased demand for care could also disrupt services at private facilities.
Police will probably deploy to monitor any protests. Clashes between police and protesters are possible if the latter is overly disruptive or breach security cordons.
Advice
Confirm medical appointments at public health facilities. Be prepared for some delays. Follow all security personnel instructions. Avoid all protests.
