Car bombing targets French military forces in Gossi, Mali, June 21. Casualties reported.

A car bomb detonated near French military forces in the Kaigourou neighborhood of Gossi, Tombouctou Region, the morning June 21. The blast left an unspecified number of people, including soldiers, injured. French authorities have not officially confirmed the incident. As of yet, no group has claimed responsibility.
Heightened security measures, as well as localized transport disruptions, are likely near the impact area. Further attacks cannot be ruled out.
Context
The incident underscores the pervasive insecurity in central and northern Mali. Islamist militants or affiliated groups waging an insurgency in restive regions of the country almost certainly perpetrated the attacks. Despite continued security operations in affected areas, armed groups in these regions continue to demonstrate an increased capability to strike civilian and military targets, as well as peacekeeping forces.
