Unidentified gunmen kidnapped eight humanitarian aid workers in Ouattagouna, Ansongo Cercle, Gao Region, June 8. Reports indicate that the workers are employed by Médecins sans frontières (MSF).
An increased security presence is possible in the area over the near term as authorities search for the victims. Clashes between security forces and the kidnappers cannot be ruled out.
Ouattagouna is located approximately 147 km (91 mi) southeast of Gao.
