Eritrea maintaining domestic COVID-19 restrictions as of July 8; international entry controls remain largely unchanged.
Event
As of July 8, authorities maintain several domestic COVID-19-related restrictions. All businesses, including retail stores and entertainment venues, are allowed to open but must close by 20:00. Cafes and restaurants must close by 21:00. Private vehicles and other means of individual transportation may be used; public transport has resumed operation at 70-percent capacity. Government institutions have returned to functioning at normal levels, including providing nonessential services. Wedding and funeral ceremonies are limited to 40 persons, while small gatherings are limited to 10 people.
Restrictions on international travel remain largely unchanged. Land and sea borders remain closed; cargo and freight are subject to enhanced screening measures. International commercial flights are operating at reduced levels. All permitted passengers arriving at Asmara International Airport (ASM) must provide a negative result from a PCR COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours before arrival. Incoming travelers are also subject to a rapid COVID-19 antigen test upon arrival in Eritrea. Additionally, non-vaccinated travelers must self-quarantine for 5 days and take a second COVID-19 test before ending quarantine. Persons seeking to depart Eritrea require a negative result from a PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure.
Authorities could announce additional restrictions in the coming weeks, depending on disease activity; further measures may be implemented on short notice.
