Argentina: Activists to march in Buenos Aires Aug. 16

Activists plan to demonstrate in Buenos Aires Aug. 16. Participants will gather at Plaza de Mayo at 16:00 and march to Quinta de Olivos, the Argentine president’s official residence. The action is to commemorate COVID-19 victims and to protest government policies related to the pandemic.

Additional demonstrations are possible in other urban centers Aug. 16; likely venues include town halls, regional government offices, central squares and major thoroughfares. Demonstration locations could be changed at late notice.

Additional police will deploy to monitor all demonstrations. Large numbers of people and associated security measures will likely prompt localized transport disruptions; public transport services may be canceled or diverted. Widespread violence is not likely, but cannot be ruled out entirely.
