Mali: Activists plan to protest in Bamako Sept. 22
Activists to demonstrate at Place de l'Independance in Bamako, Mali, from 14:00 Sept. 22. Avoid the area as a precaution.

The Urgence Panafricanisme activist group has called for a protest in Bamako from 14:00 Sept. 22. The demonstration is scheduled to take place at Place de l'Independance. The purpose of the protest is to denounce the continued French military presence in the country, as well as perceived interference in internal affairs of Mali by the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and western countries.
Security personnel will likely monitor the demonstration and may try to disperse the gathering if it becomes especially disruptive. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out. The demonstration and resultant security response may cause localized transport disruptions.
Context
Protests against the continued French military presence in Mali have greatly increased in recent years alongside the deteriorating security situation due to regular militant attacks.
