Activists holding nationwide protests in Argentina Oct. 14 over employment, food security; transport disruptions ongoing.
Event
Activists associated with the leftist Workers' Pole (Polo Obrero) and allied organizations are holding a national day of demonstrations nationwide, Oct. 14. Protesters are demanding guarantees of employment, increased food assistance for neighborhood communal eateries, and the extension of unemployment benefits from the government and the business sector.
The protesters plan to hold disruptive events in all 22 provinces and Buenos Aires city (CABA). Several road blockages have already been reported at key access points in cities across the country, including at seven major access points to Buenos Aires city from the surrounding eponymous province.
Security forces will likely deploy to monitor gatherings. Some clashes may occur. Transport disruptions are likely to persist, particularly at key access points and intersections in urban centers throughout the country.
Advice
Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. Plan accordingly for localized transport disruptions near all demonstration locations; allow extra time to reach destinations. Heed all directives from local authorities.
