Informational

Event

The Yerewolo Debout sur les Remparts civil society group has called for a rally in Bamako beginning 14:00 Oct. 29 at Place de l’Independance (also called Monument de l’Independance). Participants will gather to show support for the transitional government, and the deployment of Russian security forces in Mali, and to demand Fench troops withdraw orm the country. Hundreds of people may attend.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely in the vicinity of Place de l’Independance on the afternoon of Oct. 29. Given the pro-government nature of the demonstration, clashes with security forces are unlikely. Counterdemonstrations cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid all demonstrations and large concentrations of police and plan accordingly for ground travel disruptions. Heed the instructions of local authorities. Depart the area at the first sign of a confrontation.
