Argentina to mark Democracy Restoration Day with mass event at Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires, Dec. 10.
Event
The administration of President Alberto Fernandez plans to mark Argentina's annual Democracy Restoration Day by hosting a mass celebration in Buenos Aires' Plaza de Mayo on Dec. 10. The observance commemorates the end of the nation's last dictatorship in 1983; the date also coincides with International Human Rights Day and the second anniversary of Fernandez's inauguration.
The gathering will include speeches by President Fernandez, former President and current Vice President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, and former Brazilian President Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva, as well as various musical performances. The celebration will probably draw large crowds. Significant security deployments, along with associated road closures and business disruptions are likely.
Advice
Avoid the general vicinity of Plaza de Mayo on Dec. 10 as a general precaution and to mitigate potential disruptions. Allow additional time to reach destinations in central Buenos Aires until the planned event ends and all participants have vacated the area.
