Eritrea: Government maintains COVID-19-related domestic measures and international travel restrictions as of Feb. 10 /update 19

As of Feb. 10, authorities in Eritrea are maintaining current COVID-19-related domestic measures and international travel restrictions.

Domestic Measures
Nightly curfew measures are in effect from 23:00 for pedestrians and from 21:00 for private vehicles. Businesses, such as retail stores and entertainment venues, are allowed to operate but must close by 20:00. Cafes and restaurants must close by 21:00. Public transport has generally resumed normal operations; however, buses are limited to transporting a maximum of 70 people. Government institutions continue to function and provide nonessential services. Wedding and funeral ceremonies are limited to 40 persons, while small gatherings are limited to 10 people.

International Travel Restrictions
Land borders remain closed; cargo and freight are subject to enhanced screening measures. International commercial flights are operating at reduced levels.

All permitted travelers arriving at Asmara International Airport (ASM) must provide a negative result from a PCR test taken within 72 hours before arrival. Incoming travelers are also subject to a rapid antigen test upon arrival in Eritrea. Those who test positive must quarantine for 14 days at a government-approved hotel at their own expense. Additionally, non-vaccinated travelers must self-quarantine for five days upon arrival and take a second COVID-19 test before leaving isolation.

Authorities could announce additional restrictions in the coming weeks, depending on disease activity; further measures may be implemented on short notice.
