Protesters are blocking National Route 9 near Cuatro Canadas May 31. As a result of the roadblock, transportation between Santa Cruz de la Sierra and Trinidad has been cut off and inter-departmental buses between the departments of Santa Cruz and Beni have been canceled. The demonstrators plan to continue blocking the highway until their demand that the departmental government increase expenditures in Cuatro Canadas is met. While the protest is mostly peaceful, clashes between demonstrators and police or rival groups cannot be ruled out.
