Informational

Event

Activists affiliated with Neighborhoods Rising (Somos Barrios de Pie) plan to stage a march to Congress in central Buenos Aires July 30. The purpose of the action is to denounce the perceived price gouging of grains by the agricultural sector. Participants will march from Station 11 (Estacion Once) to the National Congress.

Although the action should remain largely peaceful, authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased police presence in the vicinity of the demonstration as a precaution. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out, especially if security forces attempt to forcibly disperse crowds. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely.

Advice

Avoid the protest as a precaution. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a nongovernmental building. Seek alternate routes. Allow additional time to reach destinations near the protest. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
