Argentina: Unionized municipal workers to hold strike in Santa Fe Province July 21-22

Unionized municipal workers to strike in Santa Fe Province, Argentina, July 21-22; strike-related protests likely.

Warning

Event

Unionized municipal workers affiliated with the Federation of Municipal Workers' Unions (Federacion de Sindicatos de Trabajadores Municipales, FESTRAM) plan to strike across Santa Fe Province July 21-22. The purpose of the labor action is to demand that the provincial government reopen negotiations to improve workers' salaries.

The work stoppage may disrupt the provision of local government services. Strike-related protests are likely. Protesters may gather outside of the Santa Fe Government House, located along Avenida 3 de Febrero in Santa Fe city; heightened security is likely near government buildings. While government officials have asserted that they will not allow demonstrators to erect roadblocks, protesters will probably still attempt to impede the flow of traffic on multiple routes in the province, including on the Santa Fe-Rosario highway, Route 11 in Granadero Baigorria and Reconquista, and Route 9 in the town of Roldan. Significant transport disruptions are possible. Clashes between protesters and police also cannot be ruled out, especially if police attempt to forcibly disperse demonstrators.

Advice

Avoid all strike-related protests. Confirm appointments in Santa Fe Province July 21-22. Consider taking alternative routes and allow additional time to reach your destination if operating near a protest-affected area.
