Argentina: Protests planned in multiple locations nationwide Aug. 26

Activists to hold protests in multiple locations throughout Argentina Aug. 26. Increased security, disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Activists planned to hold rallies in multiple locations in the National March Against Easy Trigger (Marcha Nacional contra el Gatillo Facil), Aug. 26, to denounce what they allege are cases of state violence against civilians.

The main demonstration is scheduled for Buenos Aires, where protesters intend to gather outside the National Congress starting at 14:00, to then march to Plaza de Mayo. Other planned demonstrations Aug. 26 are:

  • Cordoba: Intersection of Colon and General Paz

  • Mendoza: Plaza Independencia, 17:00

  • Rosario: Plaza San Martin, 16:00

  • Santiago del Estero: Plaza Libertad, 17:00

Thousands are likely to participate in some of the protests, especially in Buenos Aires and Cordoba. Heightened security near the protest areas and government buildings is likely, as are associated ground transport disruptions. Violence cannot be discounted, especially if protesters become unruly or refuse orders to disperse.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations if operating near the protest areas, Aug. 26. Depart the area at the first sign of a confrontation.
