Health workers plan to hold protests nationwide in Bolivia, Aug. 4, to oppose the arrest of two medical workers.

Medical workers affiliated with the Medical Guild of Bolivia (Colegio Medico de Bolivia) plan to hold protests nationwide Aug. 4 to oppose the recent arrest of two medical workers at the Hospital Obrero de La Paz. The two workers were arrested for allegedly denying attention to police officers injured during protests by coca leaf growers. Health workers have denied such allegations.

Activists have not specified what actions they will take as protests, but they are likely to demonstrate along roads surrounding hospitals and other medical centers and by limiting medical services Aug. 4. They are also planning a nationwide 24-hour strike in mid-August.

Localized disruptions are likely near healthcare centers nationwide. Some services at hospitals may be limited Aug. 4.
