Police are responding to a mass shooting incident at La Alcantarilla pool hall on Independencia Street in Tarimoro, Guanajuato state late Sept. 21. At around 21:20 an unknown number of armed persons entered the business and started shooting, leaving at least nine dead and an unknown number of others injured. The assailants left messages suggesting they were members of the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel, a drug-trafficking organization (DTO). A large number of police have reportedly mobilized to respond to the incident. Large security operations are almost certainly underway to apprehend the suspects, secure the area, and investigate the site.

Heightened security in the area is almost certain in the coming hours; localized business and transport disruptions are likely. Further violence involving criminal organizations is possible.

Tarimoro is approximately 28 km (17 miles) south of Celaya.

Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Seek shelter in a non-government building if violence breaks out. Seek alternative routes to circumvent the incident site. Comply with all directives given by police; do not approach police unless commanded to do so.
