Argentina: Unionized education workers to launch 24-hour strike in Buenos Aires Oct. 4

Unionized education workers affiliated with the Teaching Association of Buenos Aires (Asociación Docente, Ademys) and Union of Education Workers (Unión de Trabajadores de la Educación, UTE) plan to launch a 24-hour strike in Buenos Aires Oct. 4. The purpose of the action is to demand higher funding for education and to denounce the perceived mistreatment of educational workers, students, and parents by the Buenos Aires city government. Organizers have announced an associated protest march beginning at 16:00 at the Colegio Mariano Acosta, located at Calle Urquiza 277; participants will also gather at 17:00 at the intersection of Avenida Caseros and Calle La Rioja. Demonstrators will then march to the Headquarters of the City Government of Buenos Aires.

Authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased police presence nearby as a precaution. Transport and business disruptions are likely in affected areas. Clashes cannot be ruled out, especially if security forces attempt to disperse crowds forcibly.
