Officials temporarily close border crossing between Brownsville, Tex., US, and Matamoros, Mexico, Oct. 14 due to migrant protest.

Warning

Event

A protest by migrants who have been deported from the US to Mexico has prompted authorities to temporarily close the Gateway International Bridge connecting the cities of Brownsville, Texas, and Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Oct. 14. Preliminary reports indicate the protesters may attempt to reenter the US.

Authorities have given no indication of how long the border crossing may be closed. The US Consulate General in Matamoros has advised US citizens, including government employees, to avoid the area until further notice. Significant disruptions to cross-border traffic are likely at the location into at least the late afternoon of Oct. 14.
