Argentina: Health workers to launch nationwide strike Nov. 17

Unionized health workers affiliated with various organizations, including the Union Federation of Health Workers (Federacion Sindical de Trabajadores de la Salud, FESINTRAS), plan to hold a nationwide strike on Nov. 17 to demand improved salaries, benefits, and working conditions. In Cordoba and San Salvador de Jujuy, however, the action began earlier on Nov. 16. Protests throughout the country will accompany the strike. Confirmed details are listed as follows:

  • City of Buenos Aires: March from the intersection of Avenida de Mayo and Avenida 9 de Julio to Plaza de Mayo.

  • La Plata: March from the Ministry of the Economy to the Legislature of the Province of Buenos Aires.

  • Rosario: March at 11:30 from Plaza 25 de Mayo to Plaza San Martin.

  • Santa Fe: Gathering at 10:30 at the Ministry of Health.

The labor action will almost certainly impact medical services in Argentina. Available patient services will likely see increased congestion and wait times.

While the action should largely be peaceful, authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased police presence near any demonstrations that materialize as a precaution.
