Mali: Demonstration planned in Bamako Nov. 4

The High Islamic Council of Mali plans to stage a demonstration at the Monument de l'Independance in central Bamako starting at 14:00 Nov. 4. The purpose of the protest is to denounce a video circulating on social media that is considered blasphemous against Islam. It remains unclear how many participants the gathering may draw.

Authorities will likely deploy increased security around the Monument de l'Independance as a precaution and in order to contain the gathering. Localized traffic disruptions are possible. Low-level clashes or other security disturbances cannot be ruled out.
