Egypt: Shooting incident in central El Arish reportedly leaves five persons injured late Dec. 19

Authorities will likely maintain increased security in central El Arish over the coming days in the wake of a late Dec. 19 shooting incident. According to preliminary information, at least five persons were injured in the incident which reportedly took place on or near 23rd of July Street; there were no immediate reports of fatalities. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear; no group has as yet claimed responsibility for the incident.

Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Heed instructions from security services. Allow extra time to reach destinations near the scene of the shooting into at least the early hours of Dec. 20.
